Promotional Hats Logo'd cheap hats are considered one of the top promotional items in our industry. Giving away embroidered cheap hats with your company name or website on them and having people walking everywhere advertising your business for you, well it doesn't get much better than that. We have a client who asked us what they might do to make an impression at an upcoming Indy car race. They told us that they bought a block of seats and they wanted something to make them stand out. We suggested fluorescent pink hats with their company name embroidered on the front in large jet black lettering. Our client purchased 500 hats handed them out to all their clients and employees that attended. The hats stood out so well that the clients name was mentioned on national TV and the camera zoomed in on their section to show close ups of the hats! What would that cost if you had to pay for national television advertising? Our client was VERY happy with the free publicity and continues to us for all of their promotional needs. Hat Style Definitions Six Panel Hats Six Panel Hat refers to hats that have a seam down the front center of the hat, six panels are surged together to construct the crown of the hat. Six Panel Hats are just what the name implies, six seperate panels all in the shape of sort of a heart, when sewen together make the basic crown of the hat. The majority of hats this day and age are six panel hats. The quick way to know if the hat you are looking at has six panels is almost all six panel hats have a seam down the front. The advantage of having six panels in a hat is the crown of the hat will fit more evenly to the surface of your head and that the front can slope down the same as your head rather than stand straight up in the front. Many people like the look of a six panel hat better than a five panel hat and the trend in the market place is almost all six panel hats. The disadvantage of a six panel hat is that when you are decorating the hat for promotional use the front panel must be embroidered of screen-printed and the seam can cause havic with the embellishing process. Obviously embroidering over a seam in some cases can lessen the quality of the imprint. The same can be said when screen-printing the front of a hat, with a seam running down the front it almost makes it impossible to screen-print and look good. Most hat companies will not even screen-print six panel hats, period.
Five Panel Hats Five panel hats refers to hats where the front panel is all one cut piece with no seams, five panels are surged together to construct the crown of the hat.
Many years ago five panel promotional hats were all you saw in the promotional market place. Five panel cheap hats are manufactured with four panels the shape of a heart and one front panel in a rectanguler shape all sewn together to create crown that provides a large flat front imprint area which excepts either embroidery or screen-printing very nicely. For decades this was the main stay of the promotional hats and not until the evolution of high tech embroidery machinery did we begin to see the six panel hat emerge. The disadvantages of five panel hats are that many people don't like hats that have a tall front panel that seems like just a bill board. Mesh Back Hats If you live in a climate where it is hot the promotional mesh back hat might be a good choice. Mesh back hats are made with either five or six panels both having the two back panels being mesh rather than a twill or other closed knit fabric. These two mesh hat panels allow the hat to breath and reduce sweating under the hat. High Profile Hats High profile hats being the tallest measures approximately 3 3/4" in height. The look or style of a promotional hat often is the front profile, the front panel or panels can vary from standing straight up to laying down snug on the surface of your head. When one is describing a high profile promotional hat this means the front is standing more upright and the front portion of the crown is standing more upright and this frontal area does not lay down on the head anotherwards there is air space between the front panels and the head and has a more upright profile. Medium Profile Hats Medium profile hats measures approximately 3" in height. When viewing a hat the look or style of a promotional hat often is the front profile, the front panel or panels can vary from standing straight up to laying down snug on the surface of your head. When one is describing a medium profile promotional hat this means the front panels are just slightly standing upright and just usually off the surface of the head, the frontal area does not lay down flat on the head anotherwards there is a small air space between the front panels and the head and has a slight upright profile. Low Profile Hats Low profile cheap hats measures approximately 2 2/4" - 2 1/2" in height. The look or style of a promotional hat often is the front profile, the front panel or panels can vary from standing straight up to laying down snug on the surface of your head. When one is describing a low profile promotional hats this means the front is laying down and usually touching the surface of the hat wearer. The front portion of the crown is laying down flat against the head and there is little to no air space between the front panels and the head. Headwear Terminology Profile refers to the height of the front panel/panels on the cheap hats from the bottom up to where it begins to slope back. (Each hat manufacturer has its own specs but this gives you an idea for each of the profiles) Structure refers to the backing behind the front panel/panels of the hats. Buckram is a stiffener that is laminated to the front panel/panels of th3e hats for the maximum structure available. Soft Structure hats is where a cotton sheeting is laminated or sewn in for a medium type structure. Unstructured hats is where there is no backing behind the front panel/ panels which gives a relaxed look. Eyelets are located in the crown on the hats. They come in either sewn or metal eyelets depending on the hat style and manufacturer. Standards are either 6 sewn eyelets located on the top of the crown or 2 metal eyelets located on the lower side panels hats. Closure refers to the type of strap on one size fits most hats. Strap options include the following: Standard plastic snap tab, 2 piece Velcro, Self Tuck Strap, Cloth Strap with buckle & grommet, Fabric Strap with Velcro, and split Leather Strap. Grommet on hats refers to the opening that the end of a strap tucks into on the back of the hats. Standard grommets are either sewn or metal.
